One person was accidentally shot and he died at the spot when a local MLA's bodyguard in Nagaland's Mon district accidentally fired a shot from his service revolver after it was jammed during a celebratory firing by the MLA himself.

The incident occurred at Totok Chingyu village in Mon district on Saturday. The video of the accidental shooting has ever since gone viral on social media, creating huge outrage.

MLA Thongwang Konyak from NPF party was attending a function at the village when he started firing in the air from the service pistol of his bodyguard. What's even more shocking is the victim is also seen celebrating in the video, moments before the bullet hit him.

The bodyguard had tried to clear the chamber, but the gun went off and the bullet hit the victim. Surprisingly, even after 24 hours of the incident, no police case has been lodged in spite of incriminating evidence.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland government on Saturday banned the firing of live ammunition while celebrating marriages, religious functions, social gatherings and directed all heads of district police to take strict action against offenders
