Municipal council slaps Rs 2.73 crore fine on Thomas Chandy's Alappuzha resort

If the Lake Palace resort owner, former transport minister Thomas Chandy fails to pay the fine of Rs 2.73 crore, then the municipality will destroy the illegal buildings in the resort, said municipal chairman Thomas Joseph
 

Alappuzha: The Alappuzha municipal council recently imposed a fine of Rs 2.73 crore on former Kerala transport minister Thomas Chandy for the illegal construction of Lake Palace resort.

This decision was taken at the council meeting held on Tuesday. As per sources, the municipality's investigation found 32 buildings were constructed on the resort campus violating the building rules. And 22 buildings were found to have violated the project the resort submitted to the municipality, another 10 buildings were constructed even without the local body’s permission.

It is also reported that if the resort owners fail to pay the fine, then the municipality will destroy the illegal buildings, said municipal chairman Thomas Joseph.
