Tamil Nadu is against the project as the reservoir will be built on River Cauvery that provides water to Tamil Nadu too. Karnataka activist Vatal Nagaraj has demanded the start of work immediately on Mekedatu project.

Bengaluru: Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj and his supporters are staging a protest in Attibele in Bengaluru demanding the start of work on the Mekedatu project. To keep law and order situation under control, the police have made heavy security arrangements. One deputy superintendent of police (DSP), three inspectors, six sub inspectors, eight assistant sub inspectors (ASIs), 18 head constables, 34 constables and seven women police have been deployed there. Nagaraj had earlier announced that he will stage a protest if the work doesn’t start by January. The Mekedatu project is a multi-purpose balancing reservoir project built over River Cauvery at Mekedatu, aiming at solving the drinking water problems of Bengaluru and Ramanagara districts. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu is against it as they feel it will affect the River Cauvery water flow to the state.
