Maulana Mufti Asad Qasmi of the Deoband seminary has reacted vehemently to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's announcement of celebrating this year's Diwali in Ayodhya. He asks the CM what the intention of the latter is, and adds that he would welcome the chief minister only if the celebration is meant to draw Muslims closer to the government with the assurance that the Babri mosque would be resurrected on the disputed plot where Hindus believe Lord Rama was born.
