Pinarayi Vijayan was scheduled to visit the US on August 19. However, he postponed the visit in the wake of floods ravaging the State.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be travelling to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, US, for treatment and a possible surgical procedure. The chief minister informed this decision today in the cabinet meeting.
Vijayan has not handed over charge to anybody yet. He was scheduled to visit the US on August 19. However, he postponed the visit in the wake of floods ravaging the State.
The duration of the treatment will be 17 days. The decision to go to Mayo Clinic was taken after the doctors in India and the American clinic arrived at a consensus on the treatment procedure to be followed. However, the exact health issue of Vijayan is not known yet in the State.
Vijayan has been consulting doctors at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, for quite some time now and was last admitted there on March 3.
Pinarayi Vijayan was a victim of trolls when he planned his medical trip to the United States earlier. Netizens questioned why Vijayan was heading to the US instead of trusting doctors in Kerala. They also reminded him about the promises (free treatment for senior citizens) made by the ruling LDF government before coming to power.
Now people are questioning Pinarayi Vijayan for not handing over power in this situation.
"Who will take the responsibility of the State in the absence of the chief minister. If he can say in a meeting that he is heading to the US, he could have handed over power to anyone in this situation," said Ramachandran, a native of Kannur district.
Prior to the elections in 2015, LDF, through advertisements, had promised to give the people of the State best facilities including healthcare.
'Everyone can speak anything, but only the real leaders will always prove what they speak in words as well as actions," said Aravindan, a native of Kollam district.
