While inaugurating a Congress march ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on Sunday, All India Congress Committee leader AK Antony said that the Lok Sabha election is a war to save the country.

Kasaragod: Veteran All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader AK Antony made a controversial statement while inaugurating a Congress march ahead of the Lok Sabha election.

Antony said, the 2019 Lok Sabha election will witness a second Kurukshetra war in which the Kauravas led by Narendra Modi would be destroyed by Rahul Gandhi. He also added that this year's election is not simply any other Parliament election. This is a war to save the country, to save the Constitution, its morals and values, constitutional institutions and other threats faced by the country.

Reacting to this, Kerala BJP state president Sreedharan Pillai said, "I feel AK Antony has become a stupid senior leader, Congress will definitely receive backlash. Nevertheless, the BJP will create history and win more seats in Kerala than Congress."

What stood out in his statement was to make comparisons of state politics with the Mahabharata, which is considered as religious and sacred Hindu text.
