A 17-year-old girl from GH College in Haveri, Karnataka, was killed by her cousin after she resisted his sexual advances. The accused is identified as Shashi alias Manjunath Gowda.

According to the Haveri Police, who have filed a case in this regard, the victim was walking with Shashi, when he took her to a desolated place near Varadahalli. The girl had no clue about Shashi's intentions and continued walking with him. When they reached the isolated place, he tried to allegedly force himself upon her. She tried to resist and escape, but Shashi pulled the veil the girl was wearing around her neck, which led to asphyxiation.

When she fell, he tried to rape her again but understood that she had fallen unconscious. Shashi then took a wooden log he found on the spot and hit her hard on the head, killing her. Scared of the consequences, the accused tried to throw the body on the road to make it look like an accident. But as he failed, he set the body on fire. The Haveri superintendent of police, PK Parashuram, said that Shashi had confessed to the crime and would be dealt with legally.
