Karnataka audio tape controversy: JD(S) workers vandalise BJP MLA’s house in Hassan

Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP is persevering with its demand that the investigation of the audio tape controversy be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

On Wednesday morning, the state Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar had invited all the top leaders of the state for a modus vivendi at his chamber. But as no consensus emerged, the issue of who will investigate the audio tape still hangs in the balance. But on the contrary, the Speaker and the ruling coalition are inclined to hand over the issue to the SIT, which the BJP fears will be dancing to the tunes of the chief minister HD Kumaraswamy.

In order to prevail upon its demand for a House Committee investigation or a judicial inquiry, members of the BJP have decided to hold an entire-night protest inside the Assembly. And with regard to the longevity of the coalition government, the BJP is surely not confident.

Meanwhile, hundreds of JD(S) workers took out a rally in Hassan. But the rally turned out be a show of strength of hooligans as they stoned the house of BJP MLA Preetam Gowda, in protest against a derogatory statement issued by him. In the melee, a BJP worker sustained grievous injuries and he is undergoing treatment.

As a mark of protest against the highhandedness of the JD(S) workers, the BJP has called for a bandh in Hassan on Thursday.
