The ashes of Mahatma Gandhi are  not only worshipped on October 2, but every day by people of Betageri, Gadag in Karnataka. His ashes have been kept in a half-built memorial. Gandhiji had visited Betageri Weavers' Colony during independence struggle and organised a mass meeting with people. After Gandhiji's death, a small part of ashes of Gandhiji was brought to Betageri, with authorities promising a memorial called Gandhi Gudi. But even after decades, the memorial is half-built and Mahatma's statue too has been shifted to Town Hall in Gadag.
