Five dead after falling off moving train in Chennai

Five rail passengers died and several others were injured after falling off a moving Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) train in Chennai on Tuesday (24 July) morning near St Thomas Mount railway station. The Chennai Beach-Tirumalpur Passenger train was overcrowded and commuters were travelling on the footboard. As the train was entering the St Thomas Mount station around 8.15 am, several passengers on the footboard hit a cement fence and fell off. The railway police said three of the five deceased have been identified as Bharathi, Sivakumari and Shankar.
