Endosulfan tragedy: Kerala government announces loan waivers for victims

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state government has ordered the Kasaragod district collector to waive 445 loans of endosulfan victims. The government order says that loans of amounts between Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh will be waived. 

In the first stage, Rs 2,17,38,655 would be granted to the Kasaragod district collector to waive 1,083 loans of Rs 50,000 availed till June 2011. And in the second stage, funds would be allocated to waive loans between Rs 50,000 and Rs 3 lakh. 

Meanwhile, on February 3, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan promised to provide compensation and other aid to endosulfan victims after their four-day strike in front of the secretariat.
