Bengaluru: The Supreme Court order imposing restrictions on bursting crackers has made all the states revise their rulebooks and set new dos and don'ts for Diwali festivities.
Following the Supreme Court's decision that only green crackers can be burst in Delhi, even Karnataka has decided to issue some guidelines to people in this regard. These guidelines have been framed according to the apex court’s order.
Thus, according to the new rules, from November 5 to 8, people can burst crackers only between 8 PM and 10 PM.
As bursting crackers in huge quantities leaves behind poisonous garbage, increasing solid waste triggering air and sound pollution, now free crackers can be manufactured and sold by shops with official approval.
Awareness will be created at schools, colleges and public places about the dangers of bursting crackers. District administration will carry out series of events to create awareness about the same.
Meanwhile, the Pollution Control Board will keep a tab on the extent of air pollution for 14 days ― seven days before the festival and seven days thereafter.
Be careful before buying crackers! Go to official manufacturers and avoid purchasing crackers and adding to pollution levels.
