New Delhi: Two horrifying videos surfaced on Tuesday showing Kanwariyas hitting a car on a Delhi road in the presence of policemen, other motorists and passers-by — all of whom look on like mute spectators. The mob finally turns the car upside down after completely damaging it.

At least one cop of the Delhi Police is clearly visible in the video showing no inclination to intervene or call for reinforcement.

According to a police official, a PCR call was made by a person claiming that some Kanwariyas were creating a ruckus on a road in west Delhi after a verbal altercation with a car driver. The mob, mainly consisting of Kanwariyas, was angry after the car owner allegedly asked a Kanwariya not to use expletives.

According to some onlookers, the altercation began after the grey Hyundai i10 brushed past a Kanwariya.

In the first video, after one of the pilgrims tries to smash the car with a stick for some time, other Kanwariyas join him to damage the car as much as possible. Finally, they come together to turn the car upside down.

Two policemen emerge in the picture, making no effort to stop the hooligans.

Finally, in the second video, Hooligans turn the car upside down and shout slogans. So far, no action has been taken by the police.

The occupants of the car, a man and a woman, had fled the scene before the car was completely damaged, sources said.

The claims and allegations related to the incident are yet to be established.

The Uttarakhand government has asked other State governments to keep a check on criminal activities of Kanwariyas during the Kanwar yatra (pilgrimage to a shrine of Lord Shiva).
