Bangarpet: Villagers gamble with police protection, complainants receive threat calls

Bangarpet: Some people at Goravanahalli lake bed in Bangarpet have been gambling for two years and the police are said to be protecting the organisers. It is said that at least Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore is transacted in the gambling den every day. The police are paid off every month, so they do not bother raiding these places, say residents. In fact, the police are said to have made threat calls to those who complain against organisers like Narayanaswamy of Goravanahalli. Police jeep driver Thimmarayappa and other police staff allegedly help the gamblers carry out their activities.
