Periya: Medical tests confirmed that five students were suffering from H1N1 and 80 students are suspected to have contracted the virus in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Periya, Kasaragod. The Navodaya Vidyalaya, with around 570 students, is a residential school and all students, teachers and non-teaching staff reside in the campus. As of now, the symptoms exhibited by the students were mild and the fever too has subsided.

The school cancelled the regular visitation day on Saturdays to prevent the disease from spreading. The symptoms of H1N1 are fever, cough, body pain, and chill and may last up to eight days, said officials. The students are being treated on campus.
