6 labourers die after inhaling poisonous gas at a steel plant in Andhra Pradesh

In a tragic incident, six workers at Tadipatri in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district on Thursday evening after inhaling poisonous fumes at a steel plant. The incident occurred at a plant owned by Gerdau Steel India Limited. 
Gerdau is a Brazillian firm and one of the largest steel manufacturers in the Americas. The workers who died were identified as B Ranganath (21), K Manoj Kumar (24), U Gangadhar (37), S A Wasim Basha (39), K Shiva Maddileti alias Lingaiah (26) and Guruvaiah (40).

District Superintendent of Police G Ashok Kumar told PTI that the mishap occurred while testing was being done after maintenance work in the unit. A gas pipe developed a leak in a processing chamber. The workers in the chamber died of carbon monoxide inhalation. YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the incident and demanded compensation for the families of victims.
