6 die after consuming liquor found in dump yard; death toll may increase

6 people died and 10 others were admitted to hospital after a group of ragpickers consumed liquor found in a dumping ground in Visakhapatnam's Uppara Colony in Gajuwaka police limits. The contents of alcohol yet to be ascertained.

Visakhapatnam: Six people died and many were critical after consuming alcohol found in a dump yard in Uppara Colony, Visakhapatnam.

A group of 20 rag pickers found a plastic can containing liquor in a dump yard on Saturday. Police said that the group mistook it for alcohol made of mahua flowers because of its fragrance and consumed it. 

Few of them complained of sickness and nausea a few hours after consumption. 10 people are still undergoing treatment and their condition is critical.

The Gajuwaka police inspector K Rama Rao said that investigation to find out the contents of the consumed liquor is currently underway. They also expect the death toll to rise.
