Private players to build and maintain cargo lines of Indian Railways
Bengaluru: In a move that will allow private players in the freight sector of the railways, reports add that many such players have bid to construct and maintain such dedicated lines.
The move will see such terminals coming up in a dozen sites across five states.
The locations where the private players want to build the terminals include Dharuhera in Haryana; Phulera, and Kishangarh in Rajasthan; Dadri and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh; Palghar in Maharashtra; Sanjali in Gujarat; and Chawapel in Punjab, reports Indian Express.
It added that in the two pre-bid meetings before this, companies like Adani Logistics, CONCOR, DP World, JM Baxi, PSA International, TVS Logistics, Gateway Rail Freight had taken part.
It is to be noted that that terminals will be built on private land near stations which will only enhance the cargo-handling capacity.
The contract to these private players will be for a period of 30 years. In the first decade, only the winners will have the rights to handle cargo at the station, after which, other players can also participate.

The corridor - New Bhaupur-New Khurja section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is 351 km long and has an Operation Control Centre (OCC) at Prayagraj.
Modi was quoted as saying, "After Independence we are witnessing the inauguration of the most advanced rail section in the country. The first goods train that will run on the New Bhaupur-Khurja section will give a message of the new 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) and the new operation control centre in Prayagraj is one of the best control centres in the world."
"The Operation Control Center in Prayagraj is also a symbol of the new power of the new India. Anyone will be proud as the management and data technology used in the control centre has been prepared in India," he had said.
"With this ideology, we have worked on every aspect of modern connectivity in the country over the last six years," Modi had added.
The project is worth Rs 81,459 crore.
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has been set up as a special purpose vehicle to undertake planning, development, mobilisation of financial resources, construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC), a popular website noted.
