As political parties launch their campaigns and Lok Sabha election dates are announced, attention is brought to a group that is often ignored: the thousands of voters who are homeless across the country. It is frequently difficult for these people to exercise their right to vote.

To address this problem, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has presented a viable approach that guarantees that every eligible voter can comfortably cast their ballot.

How should one apply?
The application process, which is exclusive to the registration of new voters, starts with Form-6. However, those who are homeless and do not have a certificate of residency may still register.
In order to verify the voter's residency status, the booth level officer normally visits the address listed on the application, usually at night.

With the help of this creative strategy, the requirement for official proof of residency is removed, allowing underrepresented groups to participate in the election process.

What is the Form-6?
Voters who are homeless can use Form-6 to update their information if their address has changed or to get enrolled in the voter list. The process of completing the form is simple and can be completed online either the "Voter Helpline Mobile App" or the Election Commission website.

Candidates must upload scanned copies of their identity and address verification documents in addition to providing the required fields for name, age, date of birth, address, and contact information.

Upon submission of the application, candidates will receive an email with a tracking link to check the progress of their voter ID card.
The Voter ID card is normally issued after 30 days, which concludes the registration procedure.
