How a computer engineer quit his high-paying job to take up vermicomposting

Synopsis

A computer engineer quit his job to take up vermicomposting

Bengaluru: Vermicompost is in great demand these days. Farmers have understood the importance of organic farming and the harms chemical fertilisers cause. Hence the need for it.

A computer engineer, who worked in an MNC for several years, quit his job to take up vermicomposting.

Nirmal Singh Sandhu, 33 years old, is the man in question.

He says, “After engineering I applied for a job for a few years, but did not get the job I wanted. Since the family was into farming, I also decided that wandering around is better than handling one's own farming. For three to four years, I did farming. However, here too, I did not get as much good response as I thought. I used to spend time traveling around the mandis. My product was not getting the right price”.

Once he decided to get into vermicomposting, he understood its nitty-gritty by learning about it on internet and speaking to experts.

In this way, today, on half acre of land, he prepares 300 quintals of vermicompost and has 100 beds.

He says, “Right now we are preparing 300 quintals of fertilizer every month. We are supplying in Haryana as well as other states. Many people also order from the medium online. Along with fertilizers, I am also doing earthworm business. It also gives me good profit”.
Nirmal Singh, now holds classes for those who express interest in the business. Information on the same can also be had from Krishi Vigyan Kendra centres and buy earthworms at a cheap price.

Now, he earns lakhs per month.
