The actor can't seem to find any similarity between herself and her character in the recent movie Batti Gul Meter Chalu
Actor Shraddha Kapoor’s latest release Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which released on Friday, has opened to mixed reviews. Kapoor shares the screen with her Haider co-star Shahid Kapoor in the Shree Narayan Singh directorial.
Shraddha told My Nation, “It was really nice being back with him. He has been around for a while now, so he knows so much. There is so much to learn from him. I think he is one of the finest actors that we have. It feels awesome to work with him on a film which is so socially relevant.”
However, the most challenging, or rather 'annoying', was her own character, Lalita Nautiyal or Nauti in the film Batti Gul Meter Chalu. “My character Nauti is a fashion designer who thinks she is the best designer in the world but actually she is not. She has a really bad sense of dressing but she thinks she dresses the best. She feels she can compete with designers like Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal and others. But she is far from it. She has blue streaks in her hair and blue and pink everything on her body also. Her friends keep making fun of her due to her fashion sense.”
The 31-year-old actor plays a fashion designer in the film, so, how much of a fashionista is she in real life? The actress replied, “As a person, I am not big on fashion per se.” Does she as a person have any similarity with her on-screen avatar? She says, “I don’t think we are very similar. The way she talks is very annoying but we do come across people like that. Isn’t it? That’s life! Only one similarity I would like to believe we have is a good conscience.”
Shraddha’s previous release Stree is still running in theatres and has entered the 100-crore-club. This comes as a relief to Shraddha whose previous films Rock On 2, OK Jaanu, Half Girlfriend and Haseena Parkar didn’t do well at the box office. She says, “It is so nice to be part of a film which has got so much love. Although hits and misses are a part of the film industry, it is a relief that the film has done so well. It has not yet sunken how well the film is doing.”
Stree’s success has opened a floodgate of offers too. However, Kapoor believes that the films she was offered even before she signed Stree, are no less. She said, “Even before I was offered Stree, the films I had signed are very interesting. I am getting a chance to do Saina, Saaho, Batti Gul. All these were offered to me when Rock On and Haseena didn’t do well. I think it was nice that things didn’t change as such. Another film will be announced soon which was offered to me before Stree. I would like to believe that there was something that I did right, that’s why these films were offered to me.”
Does box office failure affect her decision of choosing films? “No,” says the actress, adding, “I am proud to be a part of every film that I have done be it Rock On or Haseena. Success and failure are a part of films. I have from the very beginning tried not to be too attached to either. The only thing I have in my control is to be the best that I can be and put in my best foot forward. That’s where I choose to focus on.”
On the work front, Shraddha has several projects in her kitty including Saina Nehwal biopic and Prabhas starrer bilingual film Saaho. Sharing her experience of uttering dialogues in Telugu, Shraddha informed, “I am speaking in Hindi and Telugu, so it feels like shooting two films in a single film. I memorise all my lines and don’t take any prompting. It takes very long to memorise Telugu lines but my director is helping me with the language. It is so fascinating to speak in another language! It is challenging but a lot of fun!”
