Mumbai Police Twitter account is keeping the Twitterati lit

After being relatively quiet for a while, actor Uday Chopra surfaced to give his attention-grabbing brand of Twitter gyaan. This time the actor encouraged the legalisation of marijuana, tweeting, "I feel India should legalize marijuana. Firstly, It's part of our culture. Secondly, I think if legalized and taxed it can be a huge revenue source. Not to mention it will remove the criminal element associated with it. Plus and most importantly it has a lot of medical benefits."

In a slew of tweets, he also hastily added that he wasn't a user of the good stuff but was merely pointing out the merits of being a cannabis-friendly country. He substantiated his argument with cultural and religious examples too.

Well in Holi, Bhaang (which is similar to marijuana) has been used for centuries. Also during Mahashivratri many sadhus smoke it in emulation of Shiva. Guess more religion than culture but the two are kind of inter related.

Well, it was probably a good thing that he admitted to not using marijuana because Mumbai Police swooped in to serve some dank clapback to the 45-year-old Dhoom actor and shut down the party on Twitter. They tweeted a warning to Uday that although he is "privileged to express (his) view on a public platform", the possession, consumption and transportation of marijuana continues to be punishable under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Oh well!

Sir,as citizen of India, you are privileged to express your view on a public platform. Be mindful,as of now, consumption, possession and transportation of marijuana, invites harsh punishment as per provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985.
