Kolkata: The Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host India’s first-ever day/night Test next month as Bangladesh have agreed to play the five-day game under lights.

Recently, BCCI’s new president Sourav Ganguly had proposed the second and final Test of the India-Bangladesh series to be day/night affair. The BCCI was waiting for Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) nod and it has given the green signal on Tuesday (October 29).

The Test from November 22, will be India’s maiden day/night five-day game with the use of pink ball. The Virat Kohli-led side will play the game at the iconic Eden Gardens.
"I spoke to the BCB president (Nazmul Hassan). They are agreeable, they wanted to speak to the players. I'm sure it will be a day/night match. They will also officially announce it soon. Hopefully, by 10-10:30 pm tonight, we will get a confirmation," Ganguly had told PTI yesterday.

On the historic Test, Ganguly said, “I’m pleased to announce that our long-term partner BCB has graciously agreed to play a Day-Night Test match. This is the beginning of something special in Indian cricket. It is a priority for the newly elected Office Bearers and members of Apex Council to take Indian cricket forward. For me, as former Captain of India and as the current President of BCCI, Test cricket is of utmost priority and we at BCCI will leave no stone unturned to bring this format back to its feet.
“In this effort of ours, Day-Night Test cricket is a huge step forward and we believe it will bring back the crowd into stadiums and a whole lot of young children to the sport. I am extremely honoured that the Eden Gardens will host the inaugural Day-Night Test match and the Cricket Association of Bengal will create a spectacle for everyone to watch. I thank the Bangladesh Cricket Board President Mr. Nazmul Hassan and his team for accepting our request on such a short notice. I also thank India Captain Mr. Virat Kohli for his co-operation.”
Earlier, when Ganguly was felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for becoming BCCI boss, the former India captain had said even Kohli was “agreeable” to day/night Tests.
“I am a big believer in day-night Tests. Kohli is agreeable to it. I see a lot of reports in newspapers that he is not, but that is not true. The game needs to go forward and that is the way forward. People should finish work and come to watch champions play. I don't know when that will happen, but it will,” Ganguly had said.

Even former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, who is now the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) had supported day/night Tests.
"It is good if the captain is agreeable like Dada said it is good to experiment. You will get to know if the public will like it or not. It should be implemented," Azharuddin told reporters.
In the year 2015, the first-ever day/night Test was played between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval. Australia won the match by 3 wickets. The hosts won inside three days. So far, 11 day/night Tests have been played with Australia feature in maximum contests, five.
