The Baltimore Bridge collapse shook the United States, claiming many lives and leaving several injured with life-changing injuries. Francis Scoot Key Bridge, the famous bridge of Baltimore witnessed a disastrous clash when a vessel from the Singapore-flagged container ship 'Dali' lost power and collided with the bridge. 

Many people and vehicles toppled into the river as the clash collapsed the bridge. A group of construction workers were working on the bridge when the accident occurred. Six workers from the group went missing, and only two were rescued, with no information available about the others. 

How Indian crew members saved lives 

According to Synergy Maritime Group, the company responsible for the Dali ship, all 22 crew members onboard were Indian. US Officials revealed that the crew from the Dali ship alerted the authorities in advance about the power failure and made a 'mayday' call. This action informed the officials about the situation, leading to the evacuation of people and traffic, ultimately saving hundreds of lives. 

US President praises Indian crew for alertness

Talking about the accident, the President of the United States, Joe Biden praised the individuals and their alertness and quick-wittedness. "As a result, local authorities were able to close the bridge to traffic before the bridge was struck, which undoubtedly saved lives," he said. 

Maryland Governor, Wes Moore also talked about the collapse and its impact on the area. He expressed gratitude towards the crew members and thanked them for alerting the authorities. When speaking to news reporters, Governor Moore said, "These people (the Indian crew members) are heroes. They saved lives.”
