Supreme Court has refused to stay FIR filed against Vinod Dua in a sedition case

Vaiko said the special court for trial of MPs and MLAs had erred in its interpretation of 124 A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with regard to the words he had spoken in support of the banned LTTE

The special court judge J Shanthi sentenced Vaiko. Meanwhile, Vaiko's lawyer has approached the court to suspend the sentence under CrPC 389, that allows suspension of sentence pending an appeal by a convicted person.

 

So far the Delhi government has not given its sanction to the chargesheet, alleging that the timing of the case has been decided to influence the 2019 general elections and that the Centre wanted to draw political mileage out of it
