Lunar Surface  

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Sivan has expressed confidence in ISRO stating that the space agency will successfully complete a soft landing on the lunar surface in the near future. K Sivan was invited to IIT-Delhi as chief guest for its 50th convocation. 

The Imaging Infrared Spectrometer (IIRS) in Chandrayaan 2 is designed to measure the reflected sunlight and emitted part of Moonlight from the lunar surface in narrow and contiguous spectral channels. ISRO has shared the first illuminated image of the lunar surface on its Twitter handle.

ISRO will continue its efforts to re-establish contact with lander, which had had a harsh landing on the lunar surface 

Chandrayaan 2’s lander Vikram that was supposed to land on the lunar surface lost contact with ISRO moments before the scheduled landing time. NASA has now released images captured by its Lunar Orbiter Camera that shows that the lander suffered a hard landing. 
 

Chandrayaan 2’s lander Vikram, that was supposed to soft land on the lunar surface on September 7 will now move towards a cold lunar night. The lander and its instruments will be frozen, observes ISRO.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has taken to Twitter to thank the nation for standing it. This after the organisation lost contact with Chandrayaan 2’s lander moments before its soft landing on the lunar surface. 

ISRO scientists have found the Vikram lander lying on the lunar surface after a hard landing, in a tilted position. Vikram lander lost connection with the ground staff just minutes away from the scheduled soft landing. 

Taking to Twitter, NASA lauded the ISRO team of India and said, "You have inspired us with your journey and look forward to future opportunities to explore our solar system together."

As Vikram has lost contact with ISRO, the Orbiter continues to be functional. It has eight scientific payloads for mapping the lunar surface

It’s a proud moment for India as Chandrayaan-2 will soft-land on the lunar surface of the moon in a few hours from now. It was launched on July 22.

As India’s pride Chandrayaan-2 is set to make a historic landing on the lunar surface, here’s a small writeup on the age of the moon. 

The surface of the moon is filled with craters, highlands, wetlands and mountains as well. 

Rashi Verma, a class 10 student from Lucknow will be witnessing the historic moment of Chandrayaan-2 landing on Moon’s surface on September 7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also witness the historic moment. 

The mission cost of Chandrayaan-2 with regard to the satellite was Rs 603 crore. The cost of GSLV MK III is Rs 375 crore. Chandrayaan-2 will launch on July 15
