JNU Protests No Longer Justified; Demand Related to Fee Hike Settled: HRD Minister
The fee related matter of Jawaharlal Nehru University JNU has been sorted out following several rounds of discussions with representatives of JNU students and teachers. The Ministry of Human Resource Development under the guidance of Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ took the lead by setting up a High Powered Committee (HPC) after the representatives of agitating JNU students met the HRD Minister who assured to look into the matter.

Rajya Sabha commences after being adjourned till 2 pm over JNU issue
The Rajya Sabha had been adjourned till 2pm after the opposition raised the issue of Jawaharlal Nehru University. The university had hiked the rate of a student single room rent from Rs 10 to Rs 300 per month, for student double room from Rs 20 to Rs 600 per month and increased one-time refundable mess security deposit from Rs 5,500 to Rs 12,000. This lead to massive protests at the varsity.
