When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was fighting for Indian independence taking enormous risks, there were forces in India that openly opposed him, belittled his efforts and even betrayed him to the British. One such force was the marxists, who derided Netaji as running dog of imperialism when he defied their call for support to the British during World War II.

Former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who was admitted to a hospital after complaining of “breathing problems” has shown signs of improvement. The 75-year-old CPI(M) leader has been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for quite some time.

The farmers' protest in the latter part of the last decade was against the Bengal government deciding to transfer land in Singur to the Tatas for the Nano small car factory. Their protest today is against the Bengal government for taking them for a ride. The difference is that the targets and supporters of the protest have swapped places.
