Bengaluru: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has explained the need for the lockdown that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced. 

Taking to his twitter account, the senior leader explained that though the lockdown is a painful period, it is the only way to stop the spread of the coronavirus. He urged the citizens to complete the course in spite of it being a painful period. 

With the help of two graphs, he further explained the need for the lockdown, how it will go a long way in flattening the curve and curbing the spread of the virus. 

He further exhorted the people to prevail and stay the course.

More on the lockdown: 
It was on March 24 that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown to curb and curtail the spread of the virus. 

He also urged the people not to panic and assured that the supply of essential items would not be compromised with. 

Lav Aggarwal, joint secretary, ministry of health held a presser today. This is what he had to say on community transmission: 

“We are in a phase of local transmission, in the case that there is community transmission we will be the first to inform everyone.” 

A note on tests: 

ANI quoted R Gangakhedkar, an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) official as saying, “38,442 tests have been conducted till now out of which 3,501 were done yesterday, it means we are still at less than 30% of our testing capacity. In the last 3 days, 1,334 tests have been done in private labs.”
