Bengaluru: At a time when many should have applauded UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s move to fine protesters as they went on vandalising properties during the anti-CAA protests in Uttar Pradesh, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that only Muslims are being targeted.

To drive home his point, he compared the incidents of destruction of public property during the Jat agitation in Haryana and Patel agitation in Gujarat. He later added that no such decision was taken then. He alleged further that the decision was taken to target the Muslim community.

"More than 600 police vehicles were burnt and more than 1,800 government buildings were damaged during the Patel agitation. Why are (you) doing this injustice that you will not take from Gujaratis, but recover money from Muslims,” he said.

He further added "To recover that Rs 14.50 lakh, properties of Muslims were seized, (they were) locked (in UP). This law won't apply.

There was widespread vandalism in the name of anti-CAA protests in UP. Buses were set on fire, infrastructure damaged and the list goes on.

PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have consistently belaboured that the CAA has nothing to do with Indian citizens. But in efforts to spread lies and misinformation, the Congress has succeeded in misleading many innocent Muslims.

Probably, now realising that it would soon be cornered, its leader and advocate Kapil Sibal openly said that states mulling not implementing the CAA would only end up on the wrong side of the law.

He added that the states had the right to approach the courts over the issue, maybe pass a resolution as well, but once a law has been passed by the Indian Parliament, there was no way states could dishonour it.

The Supreme Court will continue hearing the case on CAA on January 22.
