Mumbai: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar cast his vote in Mumbai as Maharashtra went to Assembly polls on Monday (October 21).

Tendulkar, his wife Anjali and son Arjun cast their votes in Bandra (West). The former India captain later took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to post a picture with their inked fingers.

“Happy to have voted & fulfilled my responsibility. Let’s turn out in large numbers to vote & be part of a vibrant democracy,” the 46-year-old Tendulkar tweeted.

After voting, Tendulkar urged others to come out in large numbers and vote. Till 12 pm, there was lack of interest among Maharashtra voters as only 17.75% was recorded.

Maharashtra has 288 Assembly seats. Voting is taking place in single phase election on Monday.

Meanwhile, Olympic bronze medallist wrestler and BJP candidate from Baroda, Yogeshwar Dutt cast his vote on Monday morning.

Polling for 90 seats of Haryana and 288 constituencies of Maharashtra began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm in the evening.

Dutt is contesting election from Baroda against Congress candidate Sri Krishan Hooda who successfully contested in the 2009 and 2014 elections by defeating Kapoor Singh Narwal of INLD each time.

The electoral fate of over 4,400 candidates — 1169 in Haryana and 3237 in Maharashtra will be sealed in EVMs by the voters who will exercise their democratic franchise in the assembly elections.

Also, Sandeep Singh, the BJP candidate from Pehowa and the former Indian hockey captain, cast his vote in Kurukshetra on Monday.
