Kolkata: Zomato delivery agent’s singing takes internet by storm

A Zomato delivery agent from Kolkata has shot to fame after a video of him singing a Bollywood number, ‘Gori tera gaon bada pyara’ went viral on social media

Kolkata: A video of a food delivery executive in Kolkata singing the popular Bollywood number “Gori tera gaon bada pyara’ has gone viral on social media. The executive’s talent came to light when a Zomato customer, Anirban Chakraborty, saw that the delivery agent bringing him the food aspired to be a singer.

When the agent knocked on his door to deliver the food, Chakraborty requested him to sing a few lines and recorded him. Soon after, Chakraborty uploaded the video on Facebook and tagged the delivery agent, Pranjit Haloi.

Chakraborty’s post read, “Presenting Pranjit Haloi ( Zomato delivery boy who delivered food today at my doorstep ) .... I saw in the app that "he wishes to become a singer someday " .. I planned and requested him to sing a song . he is so good that I made this video ... I request everyone to watch and help to fulfill his dreams ... (sic).”

‘Gori tera gaon bada pyara’ is a popular song from the 1976 movie Chitchor, directed by Basu Chatterjee.

Once posted by Chakraborty, it started amassing thousands of comments and currently, the original post has over a thousand comments, 10,000 shares and 14,000 reactions from people all over the world.

A Facebook user, who came across the video, remarked, “He sings it so beautifully that it's difficult to take away your attention from his melodious voice.” Just a few days ago a rendition of "Ek Pyar ka Nagma" sung by a woman identified as Ranu Mandal at West Bengal’s Ranaghat railway station went viral.

The song was originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar for Shor (1972), but this rendition took the internet by storm. Soon after, Ranu participated in a reality TV show for her singing talent and even underwent a complete makeover.
