Bengaluru: Tumakuru Rural JD(S) MLA Gauri Shankar on Monday (May 27) blamed the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka for the defeat of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda in the recent Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a gathering, Shankar said if the coalition government was not formed, JD(S) supremo Gowda would have won by a huge margin.

In the 17th Lok Sabha election, Gowda lost to BJP's GS Basavaraj from the Tumakuru Lok Sabha seat by 13,000 votes.

The BJP is the single largest party with 104 in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly while the ruling coalition has 117 members with 79 legislators from the Congress, 37 from JD(S) and one from BSP.
