Communal clashes erupt in Bengal's Asansol, RAF out

Tension gripped Asansol's Barakar following an attack on a Ram Navami procession organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Stone-pelting was reported by another community of people objectioning to the song which was played by the Ram Navami procession organisers. Later, members of both communities started pelting stones at one another, leading to a riot-like situation.

A large contingent of security forces was moved to the spot. Police had to take recourse to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

Central forces have been brought in. Police vehicles have been damaged and motorcycles torched.
