Here is why choosing Wayanad as Plan B might just boomerang for Rahul Gandhi, who is likely to lose Amethi too, considering the drop in vote share over the years.
Rahul Gandhi has filed his nomination from Wayanad as Plan B after announcing his candidacy from Amethi. While in 2009, Rahul Gandhi had a vote share of 71.78%, it dropped to 46.71% in 2014. Irani fielded at the last moment made Rahul Gandhi lose 25.07% vote share. Now in 2019, Rahul opting Wayanad as Plan B is seen as an acceptance of defeat before the clash starts. In Wayanad, in 2009, late Congress MP MI Shanavas won by a margin of over 1 lakh votes. However, 2014 wasn't as much of a cakewalk with the low margin close to just 20,000. After having scooted to Wayanad from Amethi, the way ahead is still not going to be easy for Rahul Gandhi.
