Canteens, shops near schools will soon be banned from selling junk food, soft drinks

A complete ban will be imposed on the sale of potato wafers, soft drinks and other junk foods in canteens or shops that are within 50 metre radius of school campus. This has been proposed by the food regulator FSSAI with a view to encourage children to consume only safe and wholesome food. The proposed ban on sale, as well as advertisements for junk foods, are contained in FSSAI's draft regulation titled Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2019.
