The Rich History Of Brihadeeswarar Or Big Temple In Thanjavur

After 23 years, the 6th mega consecration ceremony also known as Kumbabishekam took place today at the Brihadeeswarar Temple or the Big Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The last event held in 1997 was delayed by a day as a massive fire engulfed the yagasalai leading to the death of 40 people in a stampede. The rituals were carried out both in Tamil and Sanskrit, after the court ordered to hold rituals and pujas in accordance with the agama principles. A team of Odhuvars recited the Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, Thirumurai and other hymns in Tamil during the consecration.
