Former India batsman-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has called for a match between Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions.
With no bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan, the teams meet only at International Cricket Council’s (ICC) tournaments. They will lock horns next month at the Asia Cup in UAE.
"Cricket takes us to a whole new level. A match between the winning team of the IPL and the PSL is a good idea,'' said Sidhu after his recent trip to Pakistan to attend the oath-taking ceremony of his longtime friend Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Imran, who led Pakistan to 1992 World Cup glory in Australia, had also invited Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and others for the oath-taking ceremony.
Sidhu believes that the Twenty20 contest would be a game-changing one to boost relations between the neighbours.
He said, “I have laid the foundation and someone will work on it.”
Meanwhile, he was heavily criticised for his visit to Pakistan.
