Rishabh Pant is making his ODI debut while Kuldeep Yadav was out of the playing XI which had rookie pacer Khaleel Ahmed. Pant received his ODI cap from MS Dhoni

Guwahati: India elected to bowl after winning the toss against West Indies in the first ODI here on Sunday.

Rishabh Pant is making his ODI debut while Kuldeep Yadav was out of the playing XI which had rookie pacer Khaleel Ahmed. Pant received his ODI cap from MS Dhoni.

Pant, who had impressed in Test cricket since his debut in England, made it to the ODI team as a specialist batsman. Dhoni will continue to keep wickets.

For West Indies, Oshane Thomas and Chanderpaul Hemraj will be making their debuts.

After winning the toss, India skipper Kohli said, "We don't expect the pitch to change much. Our batting, Rayudu will bat at No. 4. Instead of 60-80 partnerships, we need big ones."

"Probably, we would have liked to bat first. So, looking to put runs on the board. It's an opportunity for the youngsters to make a name for themselves," visitors' captain Jason Holder said.

India won the two-Test series against the visitors 2-0. The five-match ODI rubber will be followed by three T20Is.

West Indies: Jason Holder (captain), Kieran Powell, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Shai Hope (wicketkeeper), Shimron Hetmeyer, Marlon Samuels, Rovman Powell, Ashley Nurse, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach, Oshane Thomas.
