India vs England: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to sit out 1st ODI; Siddharth Kaul may get debut chance

Synopsis

Bhuvneshwar went for a scan on Tuesday. He came to the ground but never bowled a single ball. The pacer was suffering from back stiffness since the second T20I at Cardiff

The Indian team practised on Tuesday afternoon at Trentbridge, Nottingham ahead of the first ODI against England.

Sources told My Nation that there was a remote chance that Indian swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar would play the first One Day International (ODI) on 12 July. Bhuvneshwar went for a scan on Tuesday. He came to the ground but never bowled a single ball. The pacer was suffering from back stiffness since the second T20I at Cardiff.

India vice-captain Rohit Sharma also indicated that Bhuvneshwar might be opted out from the first ODI. In that case, Siddharth Kaul may get a chance to make his debut ahead of Mumbai's Shardul Thakur. Umesh Yadav will lead the pace bowling department for India.

Suresh Raina might be get the chance to play at No 6. Dinesh Kartik is the other option, but Raina can bowl a few overs if the team needs. So Raina is the obvious choice. Axar Patel, however, may not get the chance to play first ODI. The Indian team is struggling with the specialist all-rounder's slot too.
