Jakarta: An India-Pakistan contest was witnessed in boxing at the ongoing Asian Games here on Monday and Vikas Krishan did the nation proud.
Krishan routed his Pakistani opponent Tanveer Ahmed 5-0 to move into the quarter-finals of men’s middle 75kg event at JIExpo Hall.
The 26-year-old from Haryana dominated his opponent in all three rounds and won on points. He is aiming to win his third medal in a row at the Asian Games.
In 2010, he clinched gold in Light (60kg) event while in 2014, he bagged a bronze in Middle (75kg) category.
If he wins a medal in Indonesia, he will create history by becoming the first Indian boxer to win a hat-trick of medals at the continent’s multi-sports extravaganza.
Vikas will return to the ring on Wednesday for his last-eight bout to face China's Tuoheta Erbieke Tanglatihan.
