Jakarta: Indian women made it five in a row as the 4x400m relay team clinched gold at Asian Games 2018 here on Thursday.
The quartet of Hima Das, Poovamma Raju, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth gave the nation its 13th gold in the final event of athletics in Indonesia.
For Hima, this was her third medal at the Games. She had earlier won silver in women’s 400m and mixed 4x400m relay.
The team clocked 3:28.72 to top the race while Bahrain (3:30.61) was second followed by Vietnam (3:33.23).
This was India’s fifth consecutive Asian Games relay gold. They had won in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014. Poovamma was part of the team that won in the previous Games in Incheon.
Later, India's men's 4x400m relay team of Muhammed Anas, Arokia Rajiv, Dharun Ayyasamy and Kunhu Muhammed Puthanpurakkal bagged silver in a time of 3:01.85. Qatar (3:00.56) won gold while Japan (3:01.94) took bronze.
With the athletics competition ending on Thursday, India finished with 19 medals (seven gold, 10 silver, two bronze) from track and field events.
Overall, India has 58 medals (13 gold, 20 silver, 25 bronze).
India's best-ever gold tally at the Asian Games is 15, in the inaugural edition at New Delhi (1951). In terms of overall medals, 2010 was the best with 65 (14 gold, 17 silver, 34 bronze).
