Asian Games 2018: Nation makes a mark in equestrian too with two silver medals

After Fouaad Mirza’s achievement, India was given another silver medal in equestrian as the team consisting of Mirza himself, Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik and Jitender Singh came second in eventing team competition

Jakarta: India bagged two silver medals in equestrian on Sunday at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia.

Fouaad Mirza took silver in the equestrian eventing individual final at Jakarta International Equestrian Park.

The 26-year-old Mirza is the first Indian since 1982 to win an individual medal in equestrian at Asian Games.

After Mirza’s achievement, India was given another silver medal in equestrian as the team consisting of Mirza himself, Rakesh Kumar, Ashish Malik and Jitender Singh came second in eventing team competition.

Mirza, astride Seigneur Medicott, tallied 26.40 points. Japan’s Yoshiaki Oiwa (22.70 points) won gold while Alex Hua Tian of China (27.10) bagged bronze.

In the team event, India scored 121.30 points. Japan was the winner of gold with 82.40 points. The bronze medal went to Thailand with 126.70 points.

The nation is at ninth spot in the medals table. It has so far won 31 medals with seven gold, seven silver and 17 bronze.
