Jakarta: After thrashing Indonesia 17-0, India continued their goal-scoring spree as they demolished Hong Kong 26-0 in men’s hockey on Wednesday to set a new record at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia.
At the GBK Hockey field in Jakarta, India broke an 86-year-old record to register their biggest ever win in international hockey. The previous best was 24-1 against USA at the 1932 Olympics.
Rupinder Pal Singh was the highest scorer, slotting home five goals. The next best was four from Harmanpreet Singh. Akashdeep Singh found the target thrice.
India, the highest ranked team in the tournament at five, had as many as 60 shots at the goal, one per minute in the Pool A match. The team converted nine of the 21 penalty corners earned.
Hong Kong, placed a lowly 45th in the world, could not manage a single shot at the goal.
India, the defending champions, next face Japan on Friday.
