Jakarta/Palembang: Controversy struck the ongoing Asian Games on Friday after a wrestler from Turkmenistan was slapped with doping charges.
Rustem Nazarov tested positive for the banned substance furosemide, which is a masking agent. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) issued a statement on Friday disqualifying Nazarov from the Games. India's Sandeep Tomar had beaten him in his first match.
The results of the 24-year-old's match on August 19 stands annulled, read the statement.
The OCA said that the 24-year-old Nazarov’s urine test taken the day before the Asian Games opening ceremony showed the presence of furosemide.
There were six doping cases at the last Asian Games held at Incheon in 2014.
The 2018 edition of the Asian Games is being co-hosted in Jakarta and Palembang, and would run till September 2.
