Army jawan shot dead by militants in Kashmir's Warpora

Reports said that the gunmen open fired upon Mohd Rafi Yatoo at his residence in Warpora around 5:30 pm.

New Delhi: An army jawan was shot dead by some suspected militants at his residence in Warpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir on Saturday.

Reports said that the gunmen open fired upon Mohd Rafi Yatoo at his residence in Warpora around 5:30 pm.

Yatoo was taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Sources said that Yatoo, a jawan with the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JALI), had taken leave and was at home when he was attacked.

A senior police officer said that the militants fired upon Yatoo from point blank range and he suffered critical injuries.

He said that a team of security forces has been rushed to the spot and further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, Army, Special Operations Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
