Several people, including the BJP cadres, opposed the move by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for appointing YV Subba Reddy as the TTD chairman.
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday (June 21) appointed senior YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy as the new chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust board. Subba Reddy is the uncle of Jaganmohan Reddy.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is one of the richest temples in India. This temple is also an independent trust which manages the Tirumala Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh and the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara temple.
Senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader YV Subba Reddy assumed charge as the chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam on Saturday (June 22) morning. Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Narayana Swamy and other members of the YSRCP were present on the occasion.
YV Subba Reddy, who is also the party general secretary, won as the MP seat from Ongole, Prakasam district in the 2014 national elections.
The senior YSRCP leader's appointment came after Putta Subhakar Reddy, the previous TTD chairman, who was appointed by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu resigned from the post.
According to reports, the newly elected YSR government has also dissolved the governing council of the temple and a new management would be formed within a couple of days.
Earlier in June, Subba Reddy made headlines after several BJP cadres questioned his appointment citing his religion, as Subba Reddy, reportedly, earlier belonged to the Christian community.
The appointment courted controversy as several netizens criticised Subba Reddy on social media.
