Hong Kong: India's Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open Super 500 badminton tournament on Friday (November 15).

The Indian, who is ranked 13th in the world, was 1-0 game up when Chen decided to retire from the contest due to an injury.

Former world number one Srikanth had won his second round match on Thursday against compatriot Sourabh Verma 21-11, 15-21, 21-19.

In the women’s singles, India’s challenge had ended when world champion PV Sindhu lost her second round match on Thursday, to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 18-21, 21-11, 16-21.

Saina Nehwal had crashed out in the first round after being defeated by China's Cai Yan Yan 21-13, 22-20.
