Social media is abuzz about population control. Here is a collection of the serious and the funny, the sublime and the ridiculous posts

World Population Day is observed on 11 July every year to raise awareness of global population issues. This year the theme is "Family Planning is a Human right". China is currently the most populated country in the world while India stands at the second position. If people still don't take it seriously, India will soon surpass China. Practising safe sex, spacing out births and family planning will help control the growing population. Here's what the Twitterati said:

Earth has limited resources & 4 humanity to prosper, we must use them optimally. This , themed on Family Planning, let's take a conscious call while planning our families, so our children can coexist with the environment without any dearth of resources.

— Rajyavardhan Rathore (@Ra_THORe)

Karunanidhi came to Chennai by a train without ticket, but now he is one of the richest person.

His family owns airlines, cricket teams, DTH etc.

Why is it that the elite are never our overpopulation problem? For they consume a far far far more disproportionate share of our resources. Why is it always the poor and destitute millions considered as 'population problem' They consume almost nothing.

— Shekhar Kapur (@shekharkapur)

. What matters is not the GDP but GDP per capita; what matters is not the population but population density.

Relative Population Density (/sqkm; Arable)
Singapore: 440,998
South Korea: 2,988
Taiwan: 2,932
Japan: 2,924
Holland: 2,205
UK: 1,077
India: 753
