PM Modi leads nation on Twitter to salute 'indomitable spirit' of heroes who routed Pakistan in 1971 war

New Delhi: As India celebrates Vijay Diwas on December 16 to commemorate its Army’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, politicians and celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought relentlessly during the war for the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. 

Forty-seven years ago, on this very same day, the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops surrendered to Indian Army and Bangladesh Forces called the Mukti Bahini. 

On Sunday (December 16, 2018), expressing gratitude to India, Bangladesh lawmaker Quazi Rosy said, "Without you (Indian Armed Forces), we would not have been able to attain independence so fast."
